Ubiquiti U7-LR: The Long-Distance Specialist
Not every room is perfectly square, and not every wall is made of drywall. If you need to cover large areas or transmit through thick walls, the U7-LR is your candidate.
It differs technically significantly from its siblings.
Why no 6 GHz?
The name "Long Range" says it all. The new 6 GHz band is extremely fast but physically very short-wave – it barely penetrates the first wall.
Therefore, the U7-LR focuses entirely on the proven 5 GHz band. It upgrades this with WiFi 7 technology (like 4096-QAM modulation) to achieve a massive 4.3 Gbps there as well, but with significantly better range than 6 GHz solutions.
The Special Feature: 3x3 MIMO
While the small U7-Lite only has 2 antennas per band (2x2), Ubiquiti gives the LR a third antenna in the 5 GHz band (3x3 MIMO).
This sounds unspectacular, but it is worth its weight in gold in practice: The additional antenna significantly improves the reception of weak signals (e.g., from a smartphone at the end of the hallway) and ensures more stable connections over distances.
