Your Network Control Center: The UniFi Dream Machine Pro
The UDM-Pro is more than just a Router – it's the heart of your entire Network. As an All-in-One Gateway, it combines all critical Network components into a single, elegant device. Forget the days of struggling through different user interfaces for your Router, Switch, and surveillance system. With the pre-installed UniFi OS and the UniFi Network Controller, you manage UniFi Access Points, UniFi Switch devices, and IP Cameras centrally and intuitively. Create complex Firewall rules, set up VLANs, or analyze data traffic – all with just a few clicks.
Performance Without Compromise: 10G SFP+ and Threat Management
While other Routers drastically lose speed when Threat Management (IDS/IPS) is activated, the UDM-Pro demonstrates its strength here. Thanks to its powerful Quad-Core processor, it achieves an IDS/IPS throughput of 3.5 Gbit/s. This means for you: maximum security through Deep Packet Inspection, without slowing down your gigabit internet connection. With the 10G SFP+ Modules for WAN and LAN, you are also perfectly equipped for the future, whether for a fiber optic connection or for an ultra-fast connection to a server or a main Ethernet Switch in your Network.
More than just a Router: Integrated NVR for UniFi Protect
Are you planning a professional video surveillance system? The UDM-Pro already has everything on board. Simply insert a 3.5' or 2.5' hard drive into the designated bay, and your gateway becomes a powerful Network Video Recorder (NVR) for the UniFi Protect system. Manage your IP Cameras, view live streams, and access recordings – all through the same familiar UniFi interface, locally and remotely.
Strengths & Notes at a Glance
- Pro: Outstanding price-performance ratio by bundling multiple device functions.
- Pro: High performance with 3.5 Gbit/s throughput with activated Threat Management.
- Pro: Seamless integration and central management within the UniFi ecosystem.
- Pro: Future-proof thanks to 10G SFP+ connectivity for WAN and LAN.
- Note: The integrated RJ45 ports do not offer Power over Ethernet (PoE). An additional PoE Injectors / Power Supplies or PoE-Switch is required for UniFi Access Points or IP Cameras.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Can the Ubiquiti UDM-Pro completely replace an existing router (e.g., a Fritz!Box)?
Yes, the UDM-Pro is designed as a full-fledged Router and Gateway and can replace your internet provider's router. You simply need to configure your provider's access data (if required, e.g., for PPPoE) in the UDM-Pro. It will then handle Routing, Firewall, DHCP, and all other Network tasks.
Do I necessarily need other Ubiquiti devices for the UDM-Pro?
No, not necessarily. You can use the UDM-Pro as a powerful Router with Switches and Access Points from other manufacturers. However, its full potential and greatest advantage – central management via a single interface – is only realized when combined with other devices from the UniFi ecosystem, such as UniFi Access Points or a UniFi Switch, offered by Ubiquiti Networks.
Is the hard drive necessary for the operation of the Router?
No, the hard drive is exclusively required for its function as a Network Video Recorder (NVR) with the UniFi Protect App to store video recordings from surveillance cameras (IP Cameras, Other Cameras). All other Gateway, Routing, and Network management functions work without an installed hard drive.
Does the integrated 8-port Switch support full speed on all ports simultaneously?
The eight Gigabit ports internally share a 1-Gbit/s backplane to the processor. This means that all data traffic between the eight ports that needs to be routed via the Gateway (e.g., between different VLANs or to the internet) is limited to a total of 1 Gbit/s. For pure Layer-2 communication within the same VLAN, the performance is higher. For demanding Networks, an external UniFi Switch with higher backplane capacity is recommended.
Can I set up and manage the UDM-Pro without an internet connection or UniFi Cloud account?
For initial setup, an internet connection is usually required to download the latest firmware. It is possible to manage the device with a local account, but a UniFi Cloud account is recommended for features like cloud backups and easy remote access. Logging into the local web interface is possible without an active internet connection after setup.
What is the difference between the UDM-Pro and the UDM-Pro-SE (Special Edition)?
The UDM-Pro-SE is an improved version with some key differences: It features a 2.5-GbE WAN port (instead of 1 GbE), the 8 LAN ports are PoE-capable, using PoE Injectors / Power Supplies, and it has an integrated 128-GB SSD storage for UniFi OS and recordings, which improves performance.
