Is this module compatible with other brands of Ethernet Switch (e.g., Cisco, Netgear)?
Technically yes, as it complies with SFP+ MSA standards. However, some manufacturers artificially restrict their devices to their own SFP / SFP\+ Modules. Although Ubiquiti Networks devices are considered tolerant of third-party modules, the compatibility of this Ubiquiti module in a third-party device is not guaranteed.
What is the difference between this Multi-Mode (MM) module and a Single-Mode (SM) module?
Multi-Mode (like this SFP / SFP+ Module) uses fibers with a larger core, is more affordable, and designed for shorter distances up to approximately 400m. Single-Mode uses fibers with a very small core and a more precise laser for very long distances up to 10 km or more. The SFP / SFP+ Modules are not cross-compatible.
Can I use only one module from the 2-pack?
Yes. You always need two transceivers for a connection – one at each end of the fiber optic Cabling. You can use one SFP / SFP+ Module from this pack on an Ethernet Switch and another compatible 10GBASE-SR SFP+ Module at the other end. The 2-pack sale is intended for typical Ethernet Switch-to-Ethernet Switch connections.
Why is my connection only showing 1 Gbit/s instead of 10 Gbit/s?
Ensure that the SFP+ Port on both devices is set to 10 Gbit/s (10000 Mbps). If a device only has an SFP-Port (1 Gbit/s), the connection will negotiate down to the lower speed. Check the port configuration in the UniFi Controller, which is often used with UniFi Access Points.
Is this module the successor to the UF-MM-10G?
