The UniFi Switch Flex: Your Network, Wherever You Need It
The Ubiquiti UniFi USW-Flex is the ultimate solution for Network installations in places that previously seemed unreachable. Thanks to its incredibly versatile mounting options, you can discreetly attach it to a wall, mount it on a pole with the included Accessories, or simply attach it magnetically to a metal surface. It is the perfect Ethernet Switch to install IP Cameras under the eaves, an outdoor WiFi Access Point in the garden, or other end devices exactly where you need them – all without the need for a nearby power outlet.
Intelligent Power Management: The Flexible PoE Budget
The heart of the USW-Flex is its clever Power Supply. The switch itself is powered via the first port using Power over Ethernet (PoE). But the real magic lies in the available budget for your end devices: the stronger the power source feeding the USW-Flex, the more power it can deliver to other devices via ports 2, 3, and 4. When powered by a simple PoE switch (802.3af), you have 8W available. With PoE+ (802.3at), it's 20W. And if you connect it to a PoE++ port (802.3bt) or use a 60W injector, the switch unleashes its full potential of 46W. This allows you to operate the usw-flex with a PoE Injector to power multiple cameras or access points simultaneously.
Built for the Outdoors: Robustness Meets Design
Don't be fooled by its compact size. The USW-Flex was designed for demanding outdoor use. Its polycarbonate Enclosure is weatherproof and withstands an extreme temperature range from -40°C to +55°C. The integrated ESD/EMP protection safeguards the sensitive electronics from power surges. For a fully weatherproof installation (IPX6) and an even cleaner pole mount, we recommend the optionally available USW-Flex-Utility Enclosure, which perfectly encases the switch and the Cabling and already has a 60W PoE adapter integrated.
Fully Integrated: The Power of the UniFi Ecosystem
As part of the Ubiquiti UniFi family, the USW-Flex is centrally managed via the UniFi Network Application. Here, you adopt the switch with just one click and get full access to all configuration options. Set up VLANs, monitor traffic per port, use port mirroring for troubleshooting, or view how the UniFi Switch fits into your entire network in the topology view. Central management makes configuring and maintaining your network easier and more straightforward than ever before.
Strengths & Notes at a Glance
- Pro: Extreme mounting flexibility for almost any conceivable location (wall, pole, desktop, magnetic).
- Pro: Robust, weatherproof design with a wide operating temperature range for reliable outdoor use.
- Pro: Seamless integration and central management via the UniFi Network Application.
- Pro: Flexible Power Supply via PoE-In with an intelligently scaling PoE budget for connected devices.
- Note: The available PoE output budget (8W, 20W, or 46W) depends directly on the strength of the input power and must be configured correctly.
- Note: Only ports 2-4 supply PoE power. Port 1 serves as the PoE input, and Port 5 is a data-only port with no PoE function.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Can the Ubiquiti USW-Flex be operated without a UniFi Controller?
No, the UniFi Network Application is mandatory for configuration and full management, especially for VLANs and the correct setting of the PoE power source. Without adoption in the controller, it only functions as a simple, unmanaged Ethernet Switch without PoE output.
Which Power Supply do I need to get the full 46 watts of PoE power?
To achieve the maximum PoE budget of 46 watts, the USW-Flex must be powered either by a switch with an 802.3bt (PoE++) output or a special 60-watt PoE Injector (e.g., Ubiquiti POE-50-60W). When powered by a weaker PoE+ (802.3at) switch, only 20 watts are available.
Is the USW-Flex waterproof?
The switch itself is described as 'weather-resistant,' meaning it can withstand extreme temperatures and some moisture. However, it does not have an official IP protection rating. For a completely weather- and waterproof outdoor installation, using the optional 'USW-Flex-Utility' enclosure is strongly recommended.
Can I also operate devices with the switch that require the PoE+ (802.3at) standard?
No, the output ports of the USW-Flex exclusively provide the PoE standard 802.3af with up to 15.4 watts per port. Devices that absolutely require PoE+ (up to 30 watts) cannot be operated.
Do I need to make a special setting in the UniFi Controller when using a PoE Injector?
Yes, this is crucial. If you use a 60W injector to get the full 46W of power, you must manually change the 'Power Source' to 'PoE Injector' in the switch's device settings in the UniFi Controller. Otherwise, the switch may recognize the source as standard PoE and provide only a severely reduced budget.
How many UniFi cameras (e.g., G3 Flex) can I operate on a USW-Flex?
A UniFi G3 Flex camera consumes a maximum of 4W. If the USW-Flex is supplied with full power (46W budget via PoE++ or a 60W injector), you can easily operate four IP Cameras on ports 2-5 (4 cameras x 4W = 16W), as this is well below the maximum budget. Even when powered via PoE+ (20W budget), operating four cameras is possible.
