The Bodyguard for Your Network
Long outdoor network cables act like antennas: They pick up static charge from the air or induced voltages from thunderstorms. This energy seeks the path to the most sensitive point – usually the port of your expensive PoE switch or router. The Ubiquiti ETH-SP-G2 (Generation 2) captures these voltage spikes and diverts them harmlessly via the grounding connection.
Installation
The ETH-SP-G2 features two RJ45 jacks. You essentially cut your network cable and insert this protector in between.
Important: For the protection to work, the device must be grounded! A grounding screw is provided and should be connected to a mast, grounding busbar, or ground rod.
Universal Application
Although made by Ubiquiti, this device protects hardware from *any* manufacturer (e.g., ALFA, MikroTik, TP-Link), as long as it is powered via Ethernet/PoE. It is transparent to data and power.
