Your 2.5G Multi-WAN Powerhouse: The UniFi Cloud Gateway Max
Upgrade to the next level of Network performance. The Ubiquiti UCG-MAX is not just a Router – it's the brain and shield for your demanding home or office Network. Designed for small to medium-sized environments, this compact powerhouse bundles everything you need for a fast, secure, and centrally managed Network. With full 2.5-Gigabit power on all ports and impressive security throughput, the UCG-MAX is the perfect choice as an EdgeRouter (USG) replacement and the foundation for a modern UniFi system.
More than just a Router: Integrated UniFi Console with NVR
Forget separate controllers or Cloud Keys. The UCG-MAX is a full-fledged UniFi Console that controls the entire UniFi ecosystem right out of the box. Manage not only your Network (UniFi Network), but also your video surveillance (UniFi Protect), access control (UniFi Access), and more via a single, intuitive interface. Thanks to the integrated 512 GB NVMe SSD, the Gateway simultaneously serves as a Network Video Recorder for your Cameras. This not only saves costs and space but also simplifies the entire setup and maintenance of your security system.
Maximum Reliability: UCG-Max Multi-WAN for your Business
A stable internet connection is essential. This is where the UCG-MAX excels. With its powerful Multi-WAN capability, you can configure up to four of the five 2.5 GbE ports as WAN inputs. Set up a Failover scenario where a second internet line automatically takes over if the first fails, or use Load Balancing to intelligently bundle the bandwidth of multiple connections. This ensures that your business remains online and productive, even if a provider experiences a disruption. This makes it an ideal Router for over 300 Clients who rely on a stable connection.
Strengths & Notes at a Glance
- Pro: Outstanding price-performance ratio with 2.5 GbE Routing and high IDS/IPS throughput.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Does the Ubiquiti UCG-MAX require a separate Cloud Key or controller software?
No, the UCG-MAX is a full-fledged UniFi console. It has the UniFi Network Controller software, as well as other UniFi applications (such as UniFi Protect for IP Cameras) already integrated and runs them directly on the device. A separate Cloud Key or a software controller on a PC/server is not required.
Does the UCG-MAX have integrated WiFi?
No, the UCG-MAX is a pure Router and Gateway. It does not have built-in WiFi functionality. To set up a WiFi network, it must be combined with one or more Ubiquiti UniFi Access Points (e.g., U6+, U7 Pro).
Can I upgrade the internal storage (SSD) of the UCG-MAX?
Yes, the internal NVMe SSD storage is not soldered and can be replaced or upgraded by the user. Although Ubiquiti officially offers up to 2 TB, users have reported that larger, commercially available NVMe SSDs from reputable brands are also compatible.
What is the difference between the UCG-MAX and the UCG-Ultra?
The main difference is that the UCG-MAX can run the entire UniFi application suite (UniFi Network, UniFi Protect, UniFi Access etc.) and has an integrated SSD for video recordings. The UCG-Ultra is a pure Gateway that can only run the UniFi Network application and does not have NVR functionality. The UCG-MAX is therefore the more powerful all-in-one solution for your Network.
Does the UCG-MAX support a second internet line (failover)?
Yes, the UCG-MAX comprehensively supports Multi-WAN. Up to four of its five 2.5-GbE ports can be configured as WAN ports. This allows for both failover operation (the second line becomes active if the first fails) and load balancing (the load is distributed across both lines) for your Network.
Is the UCG-MAX easy to set up for beginners?
Initial setup is very user-friendly thanks to the UniFi Mobile App and Bluetooth support, and can be completed in minutes. However, fully utilizing advanced functions such as VLANs, Firewall rules, and VPNs requires a certain level of Network knowledge and familiarity with the UniFi interface.
