Ubiquiti airFiber 5XHD: More Than Just an Upgrade
Many wireless bridges are basically just modified WiFi routers in a weather enclosure. The airFiber 5XHD is different. It was built from the ground up – specifically for the provider market (WISP).
Thanks to the LTU processor, it processes over 2 million packets per second. This is crucial when hundreds of customers are surfing, streaming, and calling simultaneously.
LTU: The End of Protocol Overhead
Standard WiFi (802.11) wastes a lot of time with "overhead" (management data).
LTU technology sheds this weight. This enables a spectral efficiency of 21.2 bps/Hz.
In plain text: The AF-5XHD transmits significantly more data than competing products at the same channel width. With 4096 QAM modulation, it gets the absolute maximum out of the 5 GHz band.
Built for the Outdoors (IP67)
While many radios are only splash-proof, the AF-5XHD is IP67 certified. It survives temporary submersion. Sand, dust, and heavy rain cannot harm it.
Split Frequency Technology
A brilliant feature for difficult environments: You can set different frequencies for the transmit (TX) and receive (RX) channels. This helps enormously to avoid local interference. Additionally, channel widths can be configured asymmetrically (e.g., lots of download, little upload).
