Fiber speed for the city. The Ubiquiti airFiber 24 (AF-24) is a revolutionary point-to-point wireless system for the license-free 24 GHz band. It is specifically designed to bridge buildings or locations in urban environments at Gigabit speeds, where the traditional 5 GHz band is often congested. With an aggregate throughput of over 1.4 Gbps and extremely low latency (ping), it replaces expensive leased lines or trenching. Thanks to separate transmit and receive antennas, it supports FDD (Frequency Division Duplexing) for simultaneous transmission and reception. Ideal for distances up to approx. 13 km (depending on desired rain margin).

Ubiquiti airFiber 24: The Sprinter Among Wireless Bridges

In metropolitan areas, the 5 GHz band is often "polluted" by hundreds of WiFi networks. Getting a stable link there is difficult.
The airFiber 24 solves this problem radically: It shifts to the 24 GHz band. It's quiet here, and there is room for speed.

FDD: Transmit and Receive Simultaneously

Most wireless bridges work in TDD mode (Time Division Duplex) – they can either transmit OR receive. This costs time.
The AF-24 masters FDD (Frequency Division Duplex) and HDD. Thanks to its two separate antennas in the housing, it can send and receive data simultaneously. The result is sub-millisecond latency – perfect for VoIP and real-time applications.

Range vs. Physics

24 GHz signals are extremely fast but are more sensitive to heavy rain than 5 GHz signals.
Therefore, the AF-24 is not built for 100 km, but for short to medium distances (up to approx. 5-13 km). Within this range, however, it delivers performance ("availability") that rivals fiber optic cables.

1.4 Gbps Aggregate Speed

Similar to the AF-5, "1.4+ Gbps" means the antenna handles this rate in total (upload + download). It fully utilizes its Gigabit Ethernet Port and delivers true business-class performance.
