Ubiquiti AMO-2G13: The Range King
If you need to cover a huge area and can't put up masts everywhere, you need an antenna with "punch."
The AMO-2G13 delivers exactly that. With 13 dBi gain in the 2.4 GHz band, it extracts the maximum from the allowed transmission power.
Mind the Physics: The "Pancake Effect"
To achieve this range, the antenna focuses the energy vertically very tightly (only 7 degrees beamwidth). The signal spreads out like a very flat pancake.
This means for you: This antenna is perfect for long distances in flat terrain. However, if you place it on a very high mountain to serve the valley directly below, you might shoot over the rooftops. For close range, the smaller AMO-2G10 is often better; for distance, the AMO-2G13 is unbeaten.
Why 2.4 GHz?
In rural areas or on campgrounds, trees often get in the way. 5 GHz signals are strongly absorbed by water (in leaves). 2.4 GHz gets through much better here and also serves clients who do not have a direct line of sight to the mast.
