Ubiquiti UMA-D: Turn Your Mesh Point into a Sniper
The small UniFi AC Mesh (UAP-AC-M) is one of the most popular outdoor APs. But with its standard antennas, it sometimes hits physical limits, especially when the target is far away or you want to cover a narrow area (like a long corridor).
The UMA-D transforms the omni-directional radio into a directional spotlight.
Targeted Illumination (Beamforming)
Instead of spreading the Wi-Fi signal like a lightbulb in all directions (Omni), the UMA-D focuses the energy like a spotlight. * 2.4 GHz (90°): A wider angle, ideal for covering areas. * 5 GHz (45°): A very narrow, sharp beam. Perfect for high performance over distance or avoiding interference in dense environments.
Typical Use Cases
1. Warehouses: Mount the antenna at the end of an aisle. The 5 GHz signal shoots down the aisle without being absorbed by the shelves. 2. Garden/Outdoor: Mount it on the house wall. The signal beams into the garden but not back into the house or to the neighbor. 3. Wireless Uplink: If you need to connect two UAP-AC-Ms wirelessly (Mesh), the UMA-D ensures a significantly more stable bridge than standard antennas.
Easy Installation
The antenna comes with two RF cables (RP-SMA). You simply unscrew the old antennas from the UAP-AC-M and screw on the UMA-D cables. The Access Point itself can be clicked directly onto the antenna mount ("piggyback"), resulting in a very clean installation.
