Sometimes you don't need the fastest WiFi, but the most flexible one.
The UK-Ultra (Swiss Army Knife) was built exactly for this. It is small, affordable, and solves problems where standard "UFOs" fail – such as in the garden, garage, warehouses, or temporary events.

The Transformer (Antennas)

Out of the box, the UK-Ultra uses its integrated antennas and behaves like a normal, weatherproof Access Point.
But what if the range isn't enough? Simply unscrew the caps on top. Underneath are two RP-SMA connectors. Here you can attach (sold separately) high-gain Omni antennas or a directional antenna. This transforms the little puck into a long-range transmitter.

Weatherproof & Robust

With its IPX6 certification, it withstands strong water jets. So you can hang it on a pole in the garden or on the exterior wall of a company without hesitation.
Technically, it relies on the proven WiFi 5 (802.11ac) standard. While not the very latest generation, it is absolutely sufficient and price-attractive for IoT devices, surfing applications, and stable mesh connections in outdoor areas.

Für den Einsatzzweck hervorragend geeignet

Der UK ULTRA (so heisst das Gerät im Unifi Controller) ist ein Access Point (AP) für MESH Betrieb, also der Erweiterung einer WiFi Funkzelle, und wird in einer wie von Uniquiti gewohnt sehr schönen Schachtel und Ausstattung geliefert. Besonders schön sind die Halteclips, die man als Bohrschablone für die Wandmontage vom AP abschnallen und danach wieder anstecken kann. Dies gilt ebenso für den extra zu erwerbenden PoE Injektor, dieser hat auch einen solchen Halteclip.

Der UK ULTRA verbindet sich mit einem bestehenden WiFi Netzwerk (hier: bereitgestellt von einem AP vom Typ U6LR) und erweitert dieses im Betriebsmodus Mesh. Die Einbindung war sehr einfach (Adopting im Controller, fertig). Auch statische IP Adresse ändern, Reboot, usw., über den Unifi Controller toll gemacht. Auch die Reaktionszeiten bei Änderungen sind super. Die Ausleuchtung ist hervorragend (Excellent). Der AP unterstützt beide Frequenzbänder 2,4/5 GHz und übernimmt die Einstellungen vom Master (hier: dem U6LR auf dem Stockwerk) als volle Konfiguration. Es gibt bei dem UK ULTRA kaum Einstellmöglichkeiten, da dieser nur als REPEATER den Einstellungen des Master folgt. Der UK ULTRA verbindet sich im Mesh mit einem einzigen AP, das wird auch unter PARENT DEVICE angezeigt (hier also nicht PoE Port xx, sondern U6LR AccessPoint).

Der hier mitbenutzte (ebenfalls weisse und extra zu erwerbende) Ubiquiti PoE Injector hat 2x RJ45 Anschlüsse: 1x PoE (Energieversorgung für den AP) und 1x LAN. Den LAN Anschluss kann man auch als WiFi-Brücke nutzen, wie in meinem Anwendungsfall. So kann ein entferntes Netzwerk per Kabel an den Injector LAN-Port angeschlossen werden und über Mesh dem bestehenden Kabelnetzwerk über WiFi angeschlossen werden (WiFi Bridging).

Die Beratung von wlan-shop24 auf meine Anfrage zu diesem Anwendungsfall im Vorfeld lief über E-Mail und war hervorragend, kompetent und super schnell. Perfectly suited for its intended purpose

The UK ULTRA (that's the device's name in the UniFi Controller) is an access point (AP) for mesh networking, meaning it extends an existing Wi-Fi network. It comes in the very attractive packaging and accessories typical of Uniquiti. The mounting clips are particularly nice; they can be detached from the AP and reattached as a drilling template for wall mounting. The same applies to the separately sold PoE injector, which also has a similar mounting clip.

The UK ULTRA connects to an existing Wi-Fi network (in this case, provided by a U6LR AP) and extends it in mesh mode. Setup was very easy (just add the IP address in the controller, and you're done). Changing the static IP address, rebooting, etc., is also handled brilliantly via the UniFi Controller. The response times for changes are excellent. The coverage is excellent. The access point supports both 2.4/5 GHz frequency bands and adopts the settings from the master (in this case, the U6LR on the same floor) as a complete configuration. The UK ULTRA offers very few configuration options, as it simply acts as a repeater, mirroring the master's settings. The UK ULTRA connects to a single access point in the mesh network, which is also displayed under Parent Device (not PoE Port xx, but U6LR Access Point).

The Ubiquiti PoE Injector used here (also white and sold separately) has two RJ45 ports: one for PoE (power supply for the access point) and one for LAN. The LAN port can also be used as a Wi-Fi bridge, as in my setup. This allows a remote network to be connected to the Injector LAN port via cable and then connected to the existing wired network via WiFi using mesh technology (WiFi bridging).

Perfect for indoor and outdoor use!

I already have a Ubiquiti AC-Lite in use for the ground and first floors. However, due to the extensive use of reinforced concrete in the basement, the coverage isn't ideal. Therefore, I added a Ubiquiti UniFi Swiss Army Knife Ultra Access Point. This is where the Ubiquiti ecosystem really shines. It was connected and ready to use in no time.

Perfekt für den Innen- & Ausseneinsatz!

Habe bereits einen Ubiquiti AC-Lite für EG und OG im Einsatz. Durch den vielen Stahlbeton ist die Abdeckung im Keller allerdings nicht optimal. Daher um einen Ubiquiti UniFi Swiss Army Knife Ultra Access Point erweitert. Hier spielt das Ökosystem von Ubiquiti dann alle Vorteile aus. Angeschlossen und in kürzester Zeit einsatzbereit.
