Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Can I use the MikroTik cAP RBcAP-2nD as a WiFi Repeater for a hotel WiFi Network?
Yes, that is possible. Thanks to RouterOS, the WiFi Access Point can be configured in "Station" mode to connect to the hotel's WiFi Network while simultaneously creating its own private WiFi Network for your devices. However, this requires manual configuration.
What is the main advantage of CAPsMAN with this WiFi Access Point?
CAPsMAN is MikroTik's solution for central management. Instead of configuring each MikroTik Access Point individually, you can control SSIDs, passwords, frequency channels, and firmware updates for all connected cAPs from a central MikroTik Router in your Network. This saves an enormous amount of time in installations with multiple Access Points.
Is the WiFi Access Point suitable for home use?
While it technically works, it is primarily designed for professional environments. Users without experience with MikroTik RouterOS might find the configuration difficult. For a simple home network, there are more user-friendly WiFi Routers or WiFi Access Points alternatives.
Does the RBcAP-2nD support the WPA3 encryption standard?
No, not in practice. While newer versions of MikroTik's operating system (RouterOS v7) support WPA3, the functionality depends on the hardware. The Wi-Fi 4 hardware built into the RBcAP-2nD does not support WPA3. However, you can use the secure WPA2 encryption.
What does "Dual-Chain" mean?
"Dual-Chain" means that the WiFi Access Point has two separate transmit and receive units. This enables the use of 2x2 MIMO technology, which can double the data rate up to 300 Mbit/s compared to a single-chain device.
Do I need a separate controller or a cloud subscription?
No. Unlike many other professional WiFi systems, the CAPsMAN controller software runs directly on any MikroTik Router in your Network. No additional hardware or paid cloud subscription is required.
