Fiber Optic Speed Over Wireless: The Wave AP 60 GHz Access Point
The Ubiquiti Wave AP is more than just an Access Point – it's your entry into the world of wireless Gigabit Networks. Designed as a WISP base station for 60 GHz, it allows you to build a powerful Point-to-Multi-Point infrastructure. Provide entire residential areas or business complexes with internet speeds previously only possible with fiber optics. Wave Technology ensures stable and efficient signal transmission, while integrated GPS simplifies the synchronization of multiple devices at one location.
Maximum Performance: 5.4 Gbps Throughput and 10G SFP+
Performance is everything. That's why the Wave AP is equipped with uncompromising hardware. A Quad-Core ARM processor and 512 MB RAM ensure smooth processing of data packets. The impressive total throughput of 5.4 Gbps in the 60 GHz band ensures you have enough bandwidth for all your connected clients. To get this data throughput into the Network, a 10G SFP+ Port for fiber optic connection and a 2.5GbE RJ45 Port are available – ensuring the interface never becomes a bottleneck.
Always Online: Intelligent 5 GHz Backup in Any Weather
60 GHz technology is extremely powerful but can be affected by extreme weather conditions such as heavy rain ('Rain Fade'). Ubiquiti has prepared for this: The Wave AP features a separate 5 GHz backup radio with Wi-Fi 6 standard. If the 60 GHz connection fails due to weather, the system seamlessly and automatically switches to the 5 GHz connection. This keeps the Service online for your customers, albeit with reduced bandwidth. As soon as the weather improves, the system switches back to full 60 GHz performance.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
How many clients can the Ubiquiti Wave AP connect?
The Ubiquiti Wave AP can serve up to 24 client devices (stations) simultaneously with the latest firmware. Older documentation indicates a capacity of 15 clients. This Ubiquiti Networks device is a powerful UniFi Access Point that benefits from Ubiquiti Accessories.
Which client devices are compatible with the Wave AP?
The Wave AP is exclusively compatible with other devices from the Ubiquiti Wave series. These include the Wave Pro, Wave Long-Range, Wave Nano, and Wave Pico. It is not compatible with devices from the airMAX ac Components or airFiber series (except AF60-LR with compatible firmware) or other 60 GHz Components.
What happens to the connection during heavy rain?
Heavy rain can attenuate the 60 GHz Components signal ('Rain Fade'). In this case, the Wave AP automatically switches to the integrated 5 GHz Components backup radio to maintain the Network connection, albeit with lower bandwidth (up to 800 Mbps). Once the weather improves, the 60 GHz connection is restored.
Does the Wave AP require a special license for operation?
No, the Wave AP operates in the globally license-free 60 GHz Components frequency band. Therefore, it can be operated in most regions without acquiring a frequency license.
Can the Wave AP also be used for Point-to-Point (PtP) connections?
No, the WAVE-AP model is exclusively designed as a Point-to-Multi-Point (PtMP) WiFi Access Point. However, some of the Wave series client devices (such as the Wave Pro or Wave Nano) can be configured for PtP connections via firmware update.
How is the Wave AP powered?
The Wave AP is powered via passive Power over Ethernet (PoE). It supports both 24V and 48V DC. A suitable 48V, 0.65A PoE Injectors / Power Supplies with a 2.5GbE port is included in the scope of delivery. It does not support active PoE standards like 802.3af/at, making it a robust part of your Network setup.
