No, unfortunately, you can't. To configure, manage, and use cool features like VLANs, Layer-3-Routing, or control Etherlighting™, you absolutely need a UniFi Network Controller. You can run it on a Dream Machine, a Cloud Key, or your own server, for example.
What real-world benefits does Etherlighting™ offer me?
Imagine you're in front of your server cabinet and need to re-plug a specific cable. Instead of painstakingly tracing it, you simply click on the port in your UniFi software, and it lights up directly on the UniFi Switch. This saves you a ton of time and prevents you from accidentally pulling the wrong cable.
Is the 180-watt PoE budget sufficient for all my devices?
That depends entirely on your connected devices. You can't simultaneously max out all 16 ports with their maximum PoE output. But don't worry, the 180 watts are super generously allocated for most setups. Your UniFi Controller also always shows you live how much power you're currently consuming and how much budget you still have.
Does this Ethernet Switch with its Layer-3 functions replace my firewall?
Absolutely not. The Layer-3 functions are brilliant for quickly routing data traffic between your internal Network VLANs. However, for the security of your internet access and complex firewall rules, you still need a dedicated gateway or a Router.
