Your Network Upgrade: Silent, Powerful, and with Touchscreen
The USW-16-POE is the second generation of Ubiquiti's popular 16-port UniFi Switch and was designed from the ground up for modern Networks. Its biggest advantage is the passive cooling concept. Without a single fan, this Ethernet Switch operates completely silently, making it the first choice for installations in noise-sensitive environments such as offices, agencies, or your living room. Forget annoying server room noises – focus on what really matters. All configuration and monitoring are effortlessly handled via the central UniFi Network Application, which gives you a complete overview of your entire Network.
Intelligent Power Supply and Flexible Connections
With a total of 16 Gigabit Ethernet ports and two additional 1G SFP ports for fiber uplinks, the Ethernet Switch offers enormous flexibility. The first eight ports are PoE+-capable (802.3at) and provide a total budget of 42 watts. This is ideal for powering multiple UniFi Access Points, IP phones, or surveillance IP Cameras directly via the Ethernet Cables. This saves you separate PoE Injectors / Power Supplies and significantly reduces cable clutter.
A Display That Can Do More: Status Info at a Glance
A true unique selling point is the brilliant 1.3-inch color touchscreen. It not only shows you the system status, utilization, and PoE consumption at a glance but also supports Augmented Reality management via the UniFi App. Simply hold your smartphone in front of it and immediately see which port is connected to which device – an enormous relief for troubleshooting and management.
Strengths & Notes at a Glance
- Pro: Thanks to its fanless design, the Ethernet Switch is absolutely silent and perfectly suited for use in offices or living spaces.
- Pro: Seamless integration into the Ubiquiti ecosystem enables extremely convenient, central management of the entire Network.
- Pro: The robust steel casing and the shallow installation depth of 20 cm allow flexible installation in 19-Inch Racks or on the desk.
- Pro: The innovative 1.3-inch color touchscreen provides important status information directly on the device.
- Note: The PoE budget of 42 watts is very limited for 8 ports and can quickly reach its limits with power-hungry devices.
- Note: As a pure Layer-2 Ethernet Switch, it does not offer routing functions, which must be handled by a separate router in complex Networks.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Can I operate the Ubiquiti USW-16-POE without a UniFi Controller?
No, the UniFi Switch is a fully managed device and absolutely requires the UniFi Network Application for configuration and management. Without the software, it only functions as an unmanaged Ethernet Switch without access to VLANs, PoE settings, or other advanced features.
Is the 42W PoE power sufficient for 8 cameras?
That strongly depends on the camera model. A typical G3 Flex camera consumes about 4 watts, which is within the budget. However, for more powerful IP Cameras with high night vision consumption or PTZ functions, the 42W PoE Injectors / Power Supplies budget will not be sufficient for 8 devices.
Is the switch suitable for rack mounting?
Yes, absolutely. It has a 1U form factor, and the necessary Mounting Systems kit is already included. Due to its shallow depth, it also fits into very compact wall or 19-Inch Racks.
What is the difference between the USW-16-POE and the older US-16-150W?
The main difference lies in the PoE budget and generation. The older US-16-150W offered a significantly higher PoE budget. The newer USW-16-POE (Gen2) is fanless (silent), has a touchscreen, but a reduced PoE Injectors / Power Supplies budget of 42W for only 8 of the 16 ports.
Do the SFP ports also support 10 Gbit/s?
No, the two SFP / SFP\+ Modules ports of the USW-16-POE are pure 1 Gbit/s ports. They serve as fiber uplinks to other Ethernet Switch devices or servers at 1 Gbit/s, but do not support higher speeds.
Why is the switch fanless?
The fanless design was chosen to enable absolutely silent operation. This is a great advantage for use in offices or living spaces where Network fan noise would be disruptive.
