Ubiquiti F-POE-G2: Fiber to the Antenna
In professional WISP installations, copper cabling is often the weak point. It is susceptible to electromagnetic interference (EMI) and conducts deadly voltage spikes into the network during thunderstorms.
The FiberPoE Gen2 eliminates these risks. It allows you to run fiber optic cable directly to the radio.
How it Works on the Tower
You run two cables up the mast:
1. A Fiber Optic cable for data (interference-free, extremely fast).
2. A DC Power cable for energy.
At the top of the mast, you connect both to the F-POE-G2. It converts the data and outputs Ethernet and PoE on the short run to the radio (e.g., an airFiber 5XHD).
Perfect Lightning Protection
Since the data connection to the building consists only of glass, no surge can jump from the antenna into your switch or router. This is the most effective form of lightning protection (galvanic isolation).
Power Flexibility
The F-POE-G2 is not a power supply itself; it passes power through.
You can feed it via a terminal block with 24V or 50V DC. It outputs exactly this voltage as PoE on the RJ45 port. Alternatively, it can be used as a simple media converter (powered via a PoE injector at the bottom).
