Fiber Optics Right at the Mast (SFP)
In professional installations on high masts or remote silos, the cable length of copper cables (max. 100 meters) is often a problem. The MikroTik NetMetal 5 completely eliminates this obstacle. Thanks to the integrated SFP cage (1.25G), you can pull a fiber optic cable for kilometers directly to the access point. This not only guarantees absolute immunity against electromagnetic interference and lightning strikes in the line but also delivers the maximum 802.11ac bandwidth to your switch without delay.
2000 mW for Unstoppable Wireless Bridging
Normal outdoor routers surrender at enormous distances. The NetMetal 5 is just shifting into second gear here. Its "Super High Power" (SHP) radio module generates a brutal transmission power of up to 2000 milliwatts (33 dBm). Paired with two powerful external antennas (via the two RP-SMA connectors), you can build point-to-point connections over dozens of kilometers or seamlessly cover huge areas with Wi-Fi.
A Refrigerator Made of Aluminum
Generating such power produces heat. Therefore, the centerpiece – a 720 MHz processor with 128 MB RAM – sits in a massive enclosure made of industrial aluminum. This NetMetal enclosure is not only protected against water ingress to the highest standards but also dissipates heat extremely efficiently. In addition, the metal shields the internal components from external radio interference. The system is rounded off by a Gigabit copper port (with PoE-In) and a USB port for 3G/4G fallback modems.
