LWO-SFP-5531-20: The Second Half of the Connection
A BiDi connection is like a handshake: It needs two sides reaching out to each other.
The LWO-SFP-5531-20 is the so-called "B-Side." While its partner (the 3155 module) transmits on 1310nm, this module "listens" exactly on that frequency. It transmits back on 1550nm.
Why BiDi (WDM)?
In many installed fiber optic cables, strands are scarce. Instead of "wasting" two strands for an uplink (one for sending, one for receiving), you use only a single strand with this pair of modules. This effectively doubles the capacity of your infrastructure without having to lay new cables.
Use Case & Compatibility
This module is designed for long distances up to 20 kilometers. It is perfect for:
* Building-to-building connections (Campus).
* FTTH (Fiber to the Home) connections.
* Uplinks to distant distribution cabinets.
It fits into any SFP slot that is not vendor-locked (e.g., Ubiquiti EdgeSwitch, UniFi Switch, MikroTik RouterBoard, TP-Link JetStream).
