LWO-SFP-3155-20: The Smart Way to Connect
Fiber optic cables are expensive or often scarce. If you only have a single free fiber left in the underground cable between two buildings but need a Gigabit connection, this module is your lifesaver.
BiDi / WDM Technology Explained
Standard SFPs require two fibers (one for sending, one for receiving).
The LWO-SFP-3155-20 uses WDM technology (Wavelength Division Multiplexing). It sends light with the color 1310nm into the fiber and simultaneously filters out the incoming light at 1550nm. This allows data to race past each other on the same lane without colliding.
Important: You Need the Counterpart!
BiDi modules are like a pair of shoes – you need a left one and a right one.
This is the A-Side (Tx1310/Rx1550).
On the other side of the line, you must plug in a module of the B-Side (Tx1550/Rx1310) (often referred to as SFP-5531) for the connection to work. Two identical modules ("Blue-to-Blue") will not work here!
Compatibility
The module is manufactured according to the MSA standard (Multi-Source Agreement). This means it runs Plug & Play in hardware from: * Ubiquiti (UniFi & EdgeMAX) * MikroTik * TP-Link * Netgear * D-Link * and many switches with an open SFP slot.
