The signal gain of an antenna is measured in dBi (decibels isotropic). A higher dBi number means a stronger, but also more focused, reception. So, a 12 dBi directional antenna has a much stronger focus than a 5 dBi omni-directional antenna. for the best reception, a directional antenna should always be aimed as precisely as possible at the nearest cell tower.
