Halve your Cabling Costs: The Magic of BiDi Technology
Imagine you could simply halve the costs for your fiber optic Cabling. That's exactly what the Ubiquiti UACC-OM-SM-1G-S-2 SFP Module pair enables you to do. Thanks to intelligent BiDi (Bidirectional) Technology, only a single fiber optic cable is needed to simultaneously send and receive data. This is achieved by using two different light wavelengths. This is not only brilliantly efficient but also a lifesaver in environments where the number of available fibers is limited. This way, you can optimally utilize your existing infrastructure or realize new connections much more cost-effectively for your Network.
Plug & Play for your Network: Universal Compatibility
Nobody likes complicated installations. That's why these SFP / SFP\+ Modules are designed to make your life easy. They comply with the SFP Multi-Source Agreement (MSA) and are therefore compatible with a huge range of Network devices. Whether you use a UniFi Switch or an Ethernet Switch from another manufacturer – as long as a free SFP port is available and no vendor-specific lock is active, you can simply plug in the SFP / SFP\+ Modules. Since they are 'Hot-Swappable', installation is even possible during operation, without any Network downtime.
Ideal for Campus Networks and Building Connections
With a stable and reliable range of up to 3 kilometers, this SFP Module pair is the perfect solution for connecting remote locations. Whether you want to connect different buildings on a company campus, floors in a high-rise, or a remote production facility to your main Network – the UACC-OM-SM-1G-S-2 ensures a trouble-free Gigabit connection. Forget the limitations of copper cables and rely on the superior performance and security of fiber optics, even over greater distances.
How to Make the Connection: What You Need to Know
For your fiber optic connection to work right away, there are two golden rules. First: The SFP / SFP\+ Modules must absolutely be used as a pair. One of the two complementary SFP / SFP+ Modules (one transmits at 1310 nm and receives at 1550 nm, the other exactly the opposite) goes at each end of the fiber optic link. Second: These SFP / SFP+ Transceivers are designed exclusively for Single-Mode Fiber (SMF) optic cables. Use with the more common Multi-Mode Fibers (MMF) is technically not possible and would lead to a complete connection failure.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What does 'BiDi' mean for this SFP module?
'BiDi' stands for Bidirectional. It means that the SFP module can send (TX) and receive (RX) data over a single optical fiber by using two different wavelengths of light. Traditional SFP / SFP+ Modules require two separate fibers for this.
Do I have to buy exactly two UACC-OM-SM-1G-S-2 modules for a connection?
Yes, this is absolutely necessary. These SFP / SFP+ Modules are sold as a pair and are designed to work together at both ends of a fiber optic connection. One module transmits on the wavelength that the other receives, and vice versa. This is crucial for your Network setup.
Can I use this module in a switch from another manufacturer (e.g., Cisco, Netgear)?
In most cases, yes. As long as the Ethernet Switch has a standard SFP port and is not restricted by a manufacturer-specific software lock (vendor-lock), the Ubiquiti Networks module should function without issues, as it complies with the SFP-MSA standard. This applies to many UniFi Switch models as well.
Is the fiber optic cable included?
No, the fiber optic Cabling is not included. You will need to purchase a suitable single-mode fiber optic cable (SMF) with simplex LC connectors separately. Consider UISP / UniFi Cable for your needs.
What is the difference between this module and one for multi-mode fiber?
This SFP / SFP+ Module uses a laser optimized for the smaller core of single-mode fibers, which allows for longer distances (here 3 km). Multi-mode modules are designed for larger fibers and shorter distances (typically under 500 m) and are not interchangeable. This is a key consideration for your Network infrastructure.
Is this module suitable for a 10-Gigabit connection?
No. This SFP / SFP+ Module is specifically designed for a data rate of 1 Gigabit per second (1 Gbit/s). For 10-Gigabit connections, you will need SFP / SFP+ Modules, such as the Ubiquiti UACC-OM-SM-10G-S. Ensure your Ethernet Switch supports these speeds.
