Ubiquiti UACC-OM-SM-1G-S-2: Double Connection, Half the Cable
In classic networking, you usually need two strands (duplex) for a fiber connection: One for transmitting (TX) and one for receiving (RX). But what if you only have one fiber left or laying cable is expensive?
This is where this BiDi (Bidirectional) Set comes into play. It uses WDM technology (Wavelength Division Multiplexing).
Blue Meets Yellow
The set consists of two modules that are color-coded (Blue and Yellow latch):
* Module A (Blue): Transmits at 1310 nm and receives at 1550 nm.
* Module B (Yellow): Transmits at 1550 nm and receives at 1310 nm.
You plug the blue module into Switch 1 and the yellow one into Switch 2. In between, a simple Simplex cable (LC Single-Mode) is sufficient. The modules "throw" data at each other on different light frequencies without colliding.
3 Kilometers Range
Although the technology sounds complex, the application is Plug & Play. The modules achieve a distance of up to 3 kilometers. This is ideal for campus networks, connections between warehouses, or connecting floor distributors in large office buildings.
