Ubiquiti UACC-OM-MM-1G-D-2: The Connection is Live
Copper cables (LAN) are limited to a maximum of 100 meters. But what if the next distribution cabinet is 200 meters away in another warehouse? Or if you want to connect two switches without a lightning strike in one building destroying the switch in the other?
The solution is Fiber Optics. And these modules are the "plugs" you need for it.
Why Multi-Mode?
For connections inside buildings or on a campus, "Multi-Mode" fibers are typically used (recognizable by the aqua or violet color of the cables). They are more cost-effective and robust against dirt than the Single-Mode fibers (yellow) used for long distances.
These modules operate at 850 nm wavelength and achieve distances of up to 550 meters.
The Worry-Free Package
Since you always need two modules for a connection (one at the start, one at the destination), Ubiquiti delivers a 2-pack right here.
Simply plug the modules into the SFP port of your switch. The LC fiber cable clicks audibly into place, and the link is established. No software installation required.
