Can the TP-Link VIGI C440-W record without an internet connection?
Yes. If a MicroSD card is installed in the camera, it can record continuously or upon motion detection directly to the card, even if the internet connection is interrupted. However, access to the recordings will only be possible again once the connection is restored or the card is manually removed.
Is a subscription required to use the camera?
No. For basic functions such as live view, receiving notifications, and local recording to an SD card or an NVR, there are no monthly fees or subscriptions.
How good is the night vision image quality really?
The night vision image quality is one of the strengths of this model. In 'Full-Color' mode, it uses ambient light and the built-in LEDs to produce a color image. This is significantly more informative than a traditional black-and-white infrared image. In complete darkness, it can illuminate up to 30 meters.
Does the VIGI C440-W support cloud storage?
No, TP-Link does not offer its own cloud storage solution for the VIGI series by default. Recording is limited to a MicroSD card, a local NVR, a PC with VIGI software, or a NAS system via ONVIF.
Can the camera film outside through a window?
Technically yes, but it is not recommended. At night, the infrared or white light LEDs would be reflected by the glass pane, leading to severe overexposure and rendering the image unusable. Additionally, motion detection algorithms can be disturbed by reflections on the glass.
Is the installation complicated for a layman?
The installation is kept relatively simple. Thanks to the WiFi function, there is no need to lay a network cable. Setup is done step-by-step via the VIGI app, which guides the user through the process of connecting to the WiFi and configuring the basic settings.
