Your Project, Your Connection: Assemble Your Own WiFi Antenna cables

Why settle for standard lengths when you can create the perfect connection yourself? With this RP-SMA Female Connector, you take matters into your own hands. Whether you want to connect an outdoor Antenna to your WiFi Router or extend an existing line – self-assembly gives you the freedom to produce Antenna cables exactly to your specifications. The crimp technique ensures a connection that is as stable and reliable as an industrial Cable. You only need the appropriate Cabling, such as an H-155 or RF-240, and a crimping tool to create a professional, low-loss connection.

The Difference Between SMA and RP-SMA: Finally Clarity

It's the most common reason for a wrong purchase and often causes confusion: the difference between SMA and RP-SMA. Look closely! This connector is an RP-SMA (Reverse Polarity) version. This means it has an outer thread for screwing and a male pin in the center. This is the typical connection on most WiFi devices like WiFi Routers or WiFi Access Points. A standard SMA connector would not fit here, as it also has a pin. So, before buying, check the connection on your device: If you see an outer thread with a pin, this Coaxial Connector is the right one to build a Cable for it.

Quality Down to the Detail: Gold Plating and PTFE Dielectric

With high-frequency signals, every detail counts. That's why the housing and inner conductor of this connector are made of gold-plated brass. The gold coating not only offers excellent protection against corrosion but also guarantees extremely low contact resistance. The result is a low-loss signal transmission. Inside, a PTFE (Teflon) dielectric ensures perfect insulation. This material is known for its excellent properties at high frequencies and its enormous temperature resistance. This keeps your Network signal clean and strong even under demanding conditions.

Assembly Tips for a Perfect Crimp Connection

A good connection is only as good as its assembly. For this RP-SMA Crimp Female Connector, a suitable crimping tool is essential. Prepare your Coaxial Cable carefully according to the instructions: the outer jacket, braid, and dielectric must be stripped to the correct lengths. Then, the center pin is pushed onto the inner conductor (crimped or soldered depending on the design) and the connector is placed on the cable. The crimping tool is used to firmly press the sleeve onto the braid. This technique ensures an extremely tensile and electrically flawless connection that lasts for years.

Strengths & Notes at a Glance

  • Pro: Gold plating of the housing and pin ensures excellent, low-loss signal transmission and permanent protection against corrosion.
  • Pro: Crimp assembly creates an extremely tensile and mechanically stable connection that withstands vibrations.
  • Pro: Perfectly designed for common low-loss Cabling like H-155 or LMR-240 for best performance.
  • Pro: The RP-SMA design prevents accidental connection with incompatible standard SMA devices.
  • Note: A special crimping tool is absolutely necessary for assembly to ensure a professional connection.
  • Note: High risk of confusion with standard SMA. Please check carefully whether you need a female connector with an outer thread and a pin.

Scope of Delivery

1 x RP-SMA Female Connector for H-155, RF-5, RF-240 cables

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Does this RP-SMA jack fit my WiFi Router?

That depends entirely on your device! Most common WiFi Routers, for example from AVM or TP-Link, use exactly this RP-SMA connector. Take a close look at your router's antenna connection: Do you see an external thread and a small golden pin in the middle? Perfect, then this jack is exactly what you need to build a suitable Antenna Cable. If your router has an internal thread and a hole, you'll need the counterpart: an RP-SMA plug.

What's the exact difference between SMA and RP-SMA?

Don't worry, the confusion is normal and the most common reason for wrong purchases! Imagine it this way: The screw thread is identical for both types. The crucial difference lies inside, in the 'center conductor'. With standard SMA, the jack has a hole and the plug has the pin. With RP-SMA (Reverse Polarity), it's exactly the opposite: The jack – like this one – has the pin and the plug has the hole. This 'reverse polarity' standard was specifically developed for the WiFi area.

Do I need a soldering iron to mount this jack?

Not for the housing, because this jack is a crimp version. This means you slide the prepared cable end into the jack and then firmly press the sleeve with a special crimping tool. This ensures a rock-solid mechanical connection. Depending on the version, however, the small center pin may need to be soldered to your cable's inner conductor. Often, this is also crimped. It's best to check this carefully before assembly.

Is the jack suitable for a 10-meter long Antenna Cable?

The jack itself is absolutely perfect for this. However, for a length of 10 meters, the quality of your Cabling is much more crucial! For such a distance, you absolutely must use a high-quality, low-loss cable like the H-155 or RF-240, which this jack is also designed for. If you were to use a thin standard cable, the signal loss over 10 meters would be so high that hardly any of your WiFi signal would arrive at the end.

Can I use the connection outdoors? Is it waterproof?

The screw connection itself is not 100% waterproof. Although the jack is made of corrosion-resistant, gold-plated materials, moisture can penetrate during heavy rain. If you want to use the connection permanently outdoors, you should definitely protect the screw connection additionally. The best way to do this is with self-amalgamating insulating tape or a heat-shrink tube with internal adhesive. This way, you'll make the connection fit for any weather.

Does this jack also work with my 5G or 4G Antennas?

Technically, the frequency range is suitable, but in 99% of cases, it's the wrong connector type! Almost all 5G and 4G Routers or Antennas use the standard SMA connector (i.e., a jack with a hole). RP-SMA, like this jack, is almost exclusively the standard for WiFi devices. So, check the connections on your hardware very carefully before ordering. You'll probably need a standard SMA jack for 4G or 5G.
