Pushing the Limits of Passive Copper
When equipment in the data center is no longer in the same cabinet, but in the neighboring rack or even a few cabinets away, a standard cable is often no longer sufficient. The LWO-DAC-SFP28-5M offers you maximum flexibility here.
With a length of 5 meters, you can easily reach servers or switches in the next rack (inter-rack cabling) without having to switch directly to significantly more expensive and sensitive active optical cables (AOC) or fiber optic modules.
Why DAC instead of Fiber?
Even at 5 meters, passively cooled DAC cables remain the most cost-effective and efficient solution for 25GbE connections. Since signal conversion (electrical to optical) is completely eliminated, you benefit from lower latencies and drastically reduced power consumption (under 0.1 watts). In addition, the costs for two expensive, separate transceiver modules are eliminated. The LWO-DAC-SFP28-5M is a complete "plug & play" module – robust, insensitive to dust on lenses, and immediately ready for use.
Universal MSA Compatibility
The cable is manufactured according to the SFF-8402 MSA (Multi-Source Agreement) standard. This means it is mechanically and electrically standardized and can be used in SFP28 ports of switches, routers, and network cards from various manufacturers, provided they accept standardized DACs. (Note: Backwards compatible with 10G SFP+ ports, then throttles to 10 Gbps accordingly).
