The Frontrunner VR400W router was designed for mobile use to improve the Internet for boats, campers and RVs. Connect one of the specified, compatible WiFi USB adapters to the designated USB port or Ethernet port (depending on the selected mode) of the Frontrunner. After the appropriate configuration, the Frontrunner connects to a selected, remote WiFi network (e.g. HotSpot on the campsite or in a port/marina). Thanks to the integrated WiFi access point according to the 802.11ac standard, you can now log on to the Frontrunner with several end devices via WiFi and share the connection to the remote HotSpot. Awesome right? The Frontrunner is the ideal addition to our TravelConnector WiFi systems.
The Frontrunner router has two modes of operation.
The USB mode:
In this mode, various WiFi USB adapters are supported in order to establish a connection to a remote WiFi hotspot. To do this, connect the WiFi USB adapter to the USB port of the Frontrunner either directly or via a USB cable.
The USB port of the Frontrunner VR400W supports the following WiFi USB adapters / chipsets:
- All TravelConnector USB variants
- MediaTek MT7610U (e.g. ALFA Tube-UAC2)
- RALINK RT3070 (e.g. ALFA Tube-UN, AWUS036NEH)
- MediaTek MT7612U (e.g. ALFA AWUS036ACM)
The LAN mode:
In this mode, not the USB port but the Ethernet connection is used for the external connection. For example, the router can access the external WiFi network via our TravelConnector LAN variant.
The Frontrunner's Ethernet port supports the following functions:
- In LAN mode: PoE out, WAN port
- In USB mode: DHCP for devices connected via Ethernet
The integrated WiFi access point of the Frontrunner VR400W offers the following features:
- 2.4 GHz up to 300 Mbps 802.11n
- 5 GHz up to 900 Mbps 802.11ac
- Maximum total transfer rate: 1200 Mbps
- WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK, WPA/WPA3 encryption
- Operating mode intuitively controllable via software
