The Ultimate Bridge: Use SFP+ Port for Ethernet

Are you facing the challenge of connecting your fiber-optimized Network infrastructure with traditional copper devices? The Ubiquiti UACC-CM-RJ45-MG is exactly the tool you need. This highly specialized transceiver module, which is among the best SFP / SFP\+ Modules on the market, instantly transforms a free SFP+ Port of your UniFi Switch or Router into a powerful RJ45 Ethernet Port. Forget compatibility issues or cumbersome converters – just plug it in and unleash the full bandwidth of your Network over copper cables.

Multi-Gigabit Intelligence for Maximum Performance

The decisive advantage of this adapter lies in the abbreviation 'MG' – Multi-Gigabit. While older models often could only switch between 1G and 10G, the UACC-CM-RJ45-MG intelligently adapts to the connected device. Whether your new cable modem runs at 2.5 Gbps, your workstation demands 5 Gbps, or you want to connect a server at a full 10 Gbps: The module automatically negotiates the highest possible speed. This makes it a future-proof investment to unleash the full potential of your Network and eliminate bottlenecks.

Efficiency and Range: The Ubiquiti 10 Gbit Copper Module

Performance generates heat – a physical fact that Ubiquiti has masterfully optimized with this module. With a maximum power consumption of just 1.9 watts, it is significantly more energy-efficient and cooler than many competing products. This is a crucial advantage for the stability and longevity of your system, especially in densely packed 19-Inch Racks or in passively cooled devices like the UDM Pro. At the same time, you don't have to compromise on range: The module delivers stable 10 Gbps over a distance of up to 100 meters, provided you use high-quality Cabling like Cat 6A.

Seamless UniFi Integration and Important Notes

As an original product from Ubiquiti, perfect plug-and-play integration into your UniFi ecosystem is guaranteed. The controller immediately recognizes the module, and you won't have to deal with third-party compatibility issues. Nevertheless, it's important to know: Like all 10GBASE-T transceivers, this module also generates noticeable heat during operation. While it is more efficient than older models, it is still warmer than a fiber optic or DAC Cable connection. For maximum stability in a fully equipped UniFi Switch, we recommend leaving a slot free next to a port with this module, if possible, to improve air circulation.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is the difference between the UACC-CM-RJ45-MG and the older UF-RJ45-10G?

The 'MG' (Multi-Gig) model supports 1, 2.5, 5, and 10 Gbps. The older '10G' model typically only supports 1 Gbps and 10 Gbps, without the intermediate speeds. The MG model is therefore the more future-proof choice for modern Networks.

Does this module also work in MikroTik Switches, UniFi Switches, or switches from other brands like Cisco?

Yes, in most cases it works because it complies with SFP+ MSA standards. However, in rare cases, specific compatibility issues may arise, especially during initialization after a restart. For critical applications, it is recommended to test compatibility with your Ethernet Switch.

When should I use this SFP / SFP\+ Modules instead of fiber optic or a DAC Cable?

Use this module when you need to connect a device with an SFP / SFP\+ Modules port to a Network or end device that only has an RJ45 copper port and is located up to 100 meters away. For connections within the same 19-Inch Racks, a DAC Cable is cooler and more cost-effective. For longer distances (>100m), fiber optic is the better choice.

Does the SFP / SFP+ Modules get very hot during operation?

Yes, it gets noticeably warm to hot, which is normal for 10GBASE-T transceivers. However, at 1.9W, it is cooler than many older models that consumed over 2.5W. Ensure adequate ventilation in your Ethernet Switch.

Which Ethernet Cables do I need for 10 Gbps?

To reliably achieve the maximum speed of 10 Gbps over the full distance of 100 meters, a Cat 6A or Cat 7 Cabling is absolutely necessary. For shorter distances, a high-quality Cat 6 Ethernet Cables might work under ideal conditions, but this is outside the specification.

Can I also use this SFP / SFP+ Modules in a regular SFP port (not SFP+)?

Yes, the module is backward compatible and can also be used in an SFP port. However, the speed will then be limited to a maximum of 1 Gbps, as SFP ports do not support higher data rates for your Network.
