When it comes to networking high-end equipment in a data center or server room, every millisecond counts. The LWO-DAC-SFP28-3M is designed exactly for these requirements.
As a passive Direct Attach Copper (DAC) cable, it bridges the worlds of SFP28 ports via a robust Twinax copper cable. With a length of 3 meters, it easily covers the distance from a Top-of-Rack (ToR) switch down to the servers in the lower units or bridges the gap to equipment in the directly adjacent rack.
Why DAC instead of Fiber?
For short to medium distances in the rack area (up to 5 meters), passively cooled DAC cables are the undisputed champions. Since signal conversion (electrical to optical) is completely eliminated, you benefit from lower latencies and drastically reduced power consumption (under 0.1 watts). In addition, the costs for two expensive, separate transceiver modules are eliminated. The LWO-DAC-SFP28-3M is a complete "plug & play" module – robust, insensitive to dust on lenses, and immediately ready for use.
Universal MSA Compatibility
The cable is manufactured according to the SFF-8402 MSA (Multi-Source Agreement) standard. This means it is mechanically and electrically standardized and can be used in SFP28 ports of switches, routers, and network cards from various manufacturers, provided they accept standardized DACs. (Note: Backwards compatible with 10G SFP+ ports, then throttles to 10 Gbps accordingly).
