ALFA R36 & R36A: How to Fix IP Address Conflicts (Please wait a moment)

Updated: May 17, 2026 | Reading time: approx. 3 minutes

The endlessly spinning "Please wait a moment" screen in your browser and a lack of internet access have a very simple cause and solution on the ALFA R36: An IP address conflict.

Your main home router is very likely using the exact same IP address as the ALFA R36 / R36A (which is 192.168.2.1). This causes a network address conflict, leading to a complete collapse of data traffic.

The Solution: Change the R36 IP Address

This problem can be resolved with just a few clicks in the ALFA R36 or R36A menu:

  1. Connect to the R36, open the menu, and navigate to "Advanced" -> "Network Settings" -> "LAN".
  2. Change the "IP Address" from 192.168.2.1 to 192.168.3.1.
  3. Just below that, in the "DHCP Setup" section, adjust the IP pools: Start IP to 192.168.3.100 and End IP to 192.168.3.199.

Reboot and Reconnect

Click "Apply" and wait for about 1 minute. Do not be surprised if you cannot immediately access the router interface after the ALFA R36 restarts. Since you changed the router’s IP address, it will no longer be accessible at the old address.

Instead, access the router by entering the new IP address 192.168.3.1 in your browser’s address bar. The conflict is resolved, and your internet should now work flawlessly!

FAQ: ALFA R36 Troubleshooting

Why is an IP conflict so bad?

Every device on a network needs a unique address. If your main router and the ALFA device share the exact same number, data packets don’t know where to go, causing the network to drop all traffic.

Can I choose an IP address other than .3.1?

Yes, you can choose any subnet (e.g., 192.168.4.1 or 192.168.5.1) as long as it differs from the IP range of your main internet router.
