The ALFA Tube-2H / Tube-2HP is a LAN-based receiver. To use it with the R36 router, it must first be configured directly via a PC before being plugged into the router.
1. Preparation and Static IP
Connect the Tube-2H via an Ethernet cable to the "PoE" port on the injector. Connect the "LAN" port of the injector directly to your computer (do NOT connect it to the router yet!). Disconnect any existing WiFi connections on your PC.
Temporarily assign a static IP address to your computer (e.g., 192.168.2.10), since the Tube-2H defaults to the IP 192.168.2.1.
2. Setup the Tube-2H as a Client
Open your browser, navigate to 192.168.2.1, and log in (User: admin, Password: admin).
- Go to Easy Setup and select Client Router.
- Click on Site Survey and select the WiFi network you want to receive.
- Enter the WiFi password in the Passphrase field and click Next. The device will reboot. (The status should show "Connected" afterwards).
3. Prevent IP Conflicts (CRUCIAL!)
Since the ALFA R36 router also uses the IP 192.168.2.1, we must change the Tube-2H’s IP, or the system will crash.
In the Tube menu, go to Advanced -> Network Settings -> LAN. Change the IP address to 192.168.4.1. Save the settings. The Tube will reboot.
Now, set your PC’s IP address back to "Obtain an IP address automatically (DHCP)" in the Windows network settings.
4. Connect to the R36 Router
Now, take the LAN cable that was plugged into your PC and plug it into the WAN port of the ALFA R36 router.
Connect to the R36 via WiFi (ALFA_AP). The Tube-2H will now pass the internet signal into the router, which broadcasts it inside your RV. From now on, you can reach the R36 router at 192.168.2.1, and the Tube-2H on the roof at 192.168.4.1!
FAQ: ALFA R36 with Tube-2H
Why do I need to connect the Tube-2H to a PC first?
Because both the Tube-2H and the R36 router come with the exact same factory IP address (192.168.2.1). Connecting them directly would cause an immediate network crash due to an IP conflict.
How do I switch WiFi networks at the next campground?
Connect to your R36 WiFi. Open your browser and go to 192.168.4.1 (this reaches the Tube). Go to Advanced -> Wireless Settings -> Profile Settings -> Site Survey, pick the new network, enter the password, and click Activate/Save.
