Updated: May 17, 2026 | Reading time: approx. 6 minutes

With the help of this guide, you can easily and quickly set up a WiFi bridge (Point-to-Point) using two MikroTik SXT components within a standard home network (with DHCP enabled).

1. Download WinBox and Connect the First Device

First, please download the latest "WinBox" utility from the MikroTik website (under the Software section). WinBox is the official configuration tool for MikroTik RouterOS.

Connect the first MikroTik SXT directly to your computer using the included PoE adapter. Start WinBox. You should see the SXT in the list with the IP address 192.168.88.1. Select it and click Connect (Confirm with OK if prompted).

2. Using Quick Set Mode

Click on Quick Set in the top left corner, and select PTP Bridge from the dropdown menu on the right. Confirm with Yes and wait 10 seconds.

Now, disconnect the first SXT and plug in the second SXT. Repeat the exact same procedure (WinBox Connect -> Quick Set -> PTP Bridge) for the second device.

3. Configure the Server (Access Point)

Now connect both SXTs to your router or a switch in your network. Make sure your computer is reconnected to the network as well. Open WinBox and click Refresh – both SXTs should now appear in the list.

Connect to the first SXT. We will configure this device as the Server/AP.

  • In the Quick Set menu, click on Server/AP.
  • Adjust the Network Name (SSID), Frequency (Channel), and WiFi Password to your preference.
  • Click Apply. (The WinBox window will close automatically).

4. Configure the Client (CPE)

Restart WinBox and connect to the second SXT.

  • Select Client/CPE in the Quick Set menu.
  • Enter the identical wireless settings you used on the Server. A list of all detectable WiFi networks will appear below. Select the network broadcast by your first SXT.
  • Enter the WiFi Password and click Connect.

After a short time, the two devices will establish a connection, and the signal strength LEDs on the back will light up. Click OK. Under QuickSet, you can now view the exact signal strength in dBm. Values closer to 0 (like -55 dBm) are excellent!

FAQ: MikroTik WiFi Bridge

What is WinBox?

WinBox is a small utility that allows administration of MikroTik RouterOS using a fast and simple graphical user interface (GUI).

How do I align the bridge perfectly over long distances?

Use the dBm indicator in the Quick Set menu. Rotate the antennas millimeter by millimeter until the negative dBm value becomes as close to 0 as possible (e.g., -50 dBm is much better than -80 dBm).
