Why an RP-SMA Terminator is Important
In the Wi-Fi and Helium (mining) sector, almost all manufacturers use the RP-SMA standard. This means: The device port has a pin (male pin), so the connector – unlike standard SMA – needs a hole in the center (female contact).
This gold-plated RP-SMA Terminator mechanically fits perfectly on routers from Asus, TP-Link, AVM (modified), Netgear, as well as Helium miners like SenseCAP or Bobcat.
Typical Use Cases
1. Unused Router Ports (MIMO):
Modern routers often have 4 antenna ports. If you only connect one external directional antenna (with 2 cables), 2 ports on the router remain open. These open ports radiate wildly into the room and interfere with the reception of the directional antenna. With this terminator, you simply "screw shut" the source of interference.
2. Protection for Helium Miners & Transmitters:
If you operate a miner or access point without an antenna, the reflected energy ("standing wave") can overheat and destroy the output stage. This 50 Ohm resistor simulates a perfect antenna and protects your investment.
Why Gold Plated?
Especially with high-frequency signals (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz), contact resistance is crucial. Gold plating ensures that the contact does not oxidize even after years and the terminator maintains its 50 Ohm impedance precisely.
