Compared to an omnidirectional antenna, sectoral antnnas have a smaller radiation angle, but not as small as directional antennas. Therefore a sectoral antenna can provide a relative large area with a relative high range. Sectoral antennas are suitable for extreme widespread WiFi networks (for example camp sites).

Basically it takes effect: The higher gain of the antenna (declared in dBi), the higher the range of the antenna.
